Ethiopia's government is to buy 400,000 tons of wheat, 170,300 tons of rice, and 320,000 tons of white sugar. This is estimated to cost over half a billion dollars.
Last week, the Ministry of Trade & Industry floated a tender to procure the items. While the wheat and rice are being purchased on behalf of Ethiopian Trading Corporation, Ethiopian Sugar Corporation requested the procurement of the sugar.
According to sources, the items will be used to provide food assistance to over four million people who are in need of urgent assistance in Tigray.
The tender for each of the items will be opened separately on April 20, 2021, at the premises of the Ministry, which is located around Arat Kilo near Tourist Hotel.
